What is Anti-Fatigue Matting?
Standing for long periods of time on hard floor surfaces is very uncomfortable and causes physical fatigue. Leg muscles become static and constricted as they work overtime to keep that person in an upright position, and blood flow is greatly reduced causing pain and discomfort. In this situation the employees' heart is forced to work harder to pump blood through these constricted areas and his or her body begins to run out of energy.
The long-term health risks associated with this type of fatigue include spinal compression, damage to other joints and long-term circulatory problems including deep vein thrombosis, strokes and heart disease.
How do mats reduce fatigue?
If a person is allowed to stand on an anti-fatigue mat, their muscles will subtly contract and expand as they adjust to the flexibility of the mat. These subtle muscle movements or 'microcontractions' increase the blood-flow and increases the amount of oxygen reaching the muscles, thus greatly reducing fatigue. Rubber mats are ideal for this purpose as they force the user's leg muscles to adjust to the flexible surface.
Rubber mats can also improve blood circulation by insulating the feet from a cold floor. The heart has to work hard to keep circulation going in the body's extremities, and this is greatly impeded in cold conditions because the arteries, veins and capillaries are forced to close. This is the body's heat-retention mechanism at work. Blood is diverted away from parts of the body exposed to cold in order to reduce the amount of heat lost through the surface of the skin. However, over longer periods this leads to numbness, stiffness and numerous circulatory health risks.China Rubber Feet Manufacturers
Keeping the feet insulated from the cold will keep the arteries, veins and capillaries open which in turn improves blood circulation and reduces discomfort and risks to health.
Anti-fatigue mats can thus improve productivity and employee well-being. By reducing an employee's energy consumption and easing fatigue, the individual is able to carry out tasks for much longer periods and with greater efficiency.
